Kidnap & Blackmail Defence Trial Success

Richard Atkins successfully defended Robert Woodstock, a man charged with kidnap and blackmail, in a 6 week trial. It was alleged that Woodstock was one of 5 men involved in a plot to extort £1.9 million from a man they had allegedly kidnapped. The lengthy trial involved many legal points, including a prosecution application to read the evidence of a witness who was not prepared to come to Court. After a week of legal argument, the Crown withdrew their application. The jury deliberated for 3 days before returning their not guilty verdicts on Friday the 10/7/09.
