Francis Laird QC successfully defends "Aussie Speedway Star"
Francis Laird QC has successfully defended an Australian Speedway star charged with rape and sexual assault. The jury at Bournemouth Crown Court returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty on all four charges faced by the defendant following a two week trial. The defendant who cannot be named for legal reasons rides for a Speedway team based in the South West. The prosecution alleged that the defendant and another man raped and sexually assaulted a 17 year old girl in a hotel room in Poole Dorset following a race in August 2011.
