St Philips is delighted to announce the appointment of James Burbidge Q.C to the Circuit Bench.

HM The Queen has appointed James Michael Burbidge QC to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Kenneth Clarke QC MP.

His Honour Judge Burbidge Q.C was officially sworn in by the Lord Chief Justice at a ceremony held in London on Tuesday 26th July. He has been assigned to the Midland Circuit and will be sitting in Birmingham Crown Court.

His Honour Judge Burbidge Q.C was called to the Bar in 1979 and took silk in 2003, he was appointed as Assistant Recorder in 1999 and a Recorder in 2000. He practised in crime and regulatory.

Kevin Hegarty QC, Head of Chambers, said: "HHJ Burbidge QC has been an integral part of St Philips Chambers over the years. He was head of Chambers from 2008 until May 2011. We are all very grateful for everything he has done for Chambers and the wider Midlands Circuit.

"We are very sorry to see James leave Chambers, however, we are delighted at his appointment and we are confident he will be a valuable addition to the Midlands judiciary."
