Public and Administrative Law is one of the lynchpins of our constitution and provides the means for individuals to hold central and local government (and other public bodies) to account for their decisions. In recent years Public and Administrative Law has developed from a niche area into what is now part of the legal mainstream. St Philips is proud to be able to offer a team of practitioners with a wealth of experience in this specialist area of law.
April 2009 saw an important and exciting development in this field with the opening of the Administrative Court in Birmingham. With the exception of terrorism cases and certain specialist claims, the Administrative Court in Birmingham deals with the entire range of public law litigation, from education to housing to healthcare; cases that previously would have been decided in London will now be determined locally.
St Philips Chambers is very well placed to meet the demands of the new Court and the needs of its users. Our newly formed Public and Administrative Law Team brings together a huge array of talent across all areas of public law. The range of work dealt with by the team is as wide as the range of work covered by government itself and includes challenges against decisions of the immigration authorities, appeals against decisions made by housing authorities, human rights disputes and planning cases.
The Public and Administrative Law team regularly represents clients at Inquiries (Public and Local Government), before Specialist Tribunals, at Health and Social services panels and on Judicial Reviews and appeals by way of Case Stated.
