Sports law is an important and specialist area of law. The Sports Law Team at St Philips Chambers provides the necessary specialist knowledge and expertise required in this diverse area. The quality of the team is demonstrated by the ability and experience of its members and their detailed insight into the needs of the parties concerned in such matters.
Members of the Sports Injury team have considerable experience in dealing with claims involving injuries sustained during the course of sporting activities at all levels, ranging from participants in schools sport all the way up to full-time sporting professionals.
Members of the team have dealt with sporting injuries sustained across a wide range of sports, including football, rugby, cricket, motor racing, National Hunt racing, equestrianism and gymnastics. We deal with cases involving injuries sustained as a result of the reckless/dangerous conduct of fellow participants, unsafe playing surfaces, dangerous course design, inadequate supervision, incorrect instructions/coaching and faulty equipment.
Members have experience of dealing with the complex issues of breach of duty which arise out of on-field incidents occurring in the course of both amateur and professional contact sports. Cases undertaken by the team have included a claim on behalf of a talented and promising professional footballer who suffered a career-threatening injury as the result of an on-field tackle, which deprived him of the opportunity of playing at the very highest level.
Members of the team also have experience of dealing with the often difficult quantum issues which can arise in cases involving the remuneration of professional sportsmen and have experience of drafting complex schedules of loss in such cases, including claims for the loss of career progression.
Drug Use in Sport
Members of the team have assisted professional sportsmen and women, their agents, managers, clubs and professional bodies in this high profile and emotive arena.

Regulation of Sport
Team members have specialist experience representing parties at disciplinary hearings and chairing Tribunals where the rules of the sporting bodies such as the Football Association and the Rugby Football Union have been allegedly infringed by players, clubs, referees, coaches and agents.
Certain members of the team practice exclusively in the safeguarding of children and children’s rights within sport bringing to bear all the experience and careful handling this sensitive area of law demands.
Members are also able to provide advice and assistance in relation to commercial disputes and other matters arising from the alleged contravention of rules of that particular sporting body.
