St Philips is delighted to announce the arrival of Graham Howard who offers a powerful combination of experience to instructing solicitors in his core fields of commercial litigation including international arbitrations, commercial transactional including joint ventures and M&A and  also intellectual property/technology work.  Graham joins us having  recently completed project based work in Kuwait relating mostly to international arbitrations involving petrochemical installations and having headed up the commercial team at a DLA Piper affiliate office in Botswana where he handled international M&A and commercial contracts and litigation.

Graham Howard offers experienced business focused pragmatic advice, drafting and representation which aims to add value to any given commercial scenario.  At home advising the board of a major corporate, such as a bank or energy company on an international dispute or transaction, Graham is equally ready and willing to advise small to medium sized businesses with the view to achieving a results based, value added outcome whether by negotiation, ADR or litigation should it come to that.  As an experienced advocate and business lawyer Graham understands the special drivers and priorities in commercial disputes and is always willing to go the extra mile to achieve the value added outcome.

Having been called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1987 and completed his pupillage at Queen Elizabeth Building and 1 Crown Office Row , Temple, Graham spent his early years appearing in the County and High Courts and the Court of Appeal in a wide range of contested civil, criminal, matrimonial finance and commercial matters. Graham then practiced from QEB as a tenant and then the leading Western Circuit of 3 Pump Court and later St Johns Chambers, Bristol. He added intellectual property to his skill set having obtained the University of Bristol (now offered by Oxford University) post graduate diploma in intellectual property law and practice together with certification as a commercial mediator. Graham and his family then took the opportunity to live in New Zealand for the next ten years where he was admitted as a barrister and solicitor and practiced as a commercial and intellectual property lawyer with the leading commercial firm Buddle Findlay where he advised on national projects. He now advises on commercial disputes especially with an international context, intellectual property work especially within technology agreements, agency and franchise/brading disputes and distribution and international trade matters affecting the oil and gas industry in the Middle East and Africa. His clients and projects have included Texaco/Chevron, Barclays Bank, FedEx, Commerzbank, STEAG Energy (Germany), Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabian Basic Industries, Kuwait Oil Company and its affiliates and the University of Exeter.  Graham is comfortable assisting with most aspects of corporate governance including shareholders agreements and disputes and reputational risk to corporates and directors including defamation occurring online.

Graham has an impressive career and we are delighted he has chosen to join us.
