Richard Atkins QC represented the prosecution in the recent case of Lauren Jeska, a trans-gender athlete, who was convicted of the attempted murder of an official of UK athletics. The attack took place at the Alexander Stadium in March 2016. In what was clearly a very sensitive case, Ms Jeska received an extended sentence of imprisonment of 18 years with a 5 year extension after she attacked the victim with two knives causing serious life-threatening injuries.

Ms Jeska had been in dispute with UK athletics over her eligibility to compete as a female athlete following her failure to provide relevant test samples in relation to her testosterone levels and other documentation.
